First Lady Donates ₦110 Million to Families of 22 Kano Athletes Killed in Tragic Accident

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has extended a compassionate lifeline to the families of 22 Kano athletes who lost their lives in a tragic accident earlier this year, donating ₦110 million to support their recovery.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Sanusi Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson for the Kano State governor, who revealed that each affected family received ₦5 million through the Victim Support Fund, facilitated by the First Lady’s intervention.

The gesture aims to alleviate the financial and emotional burdens faced by the families following the devastating loss.

The athletes, who were part of Kano State’s vibrant sports community, perished in a road accident that shocked the nation and sparked widespread calls for improved road safety measures.

While details of the accident were not specified in the announcement, the incident has left a lasting impact on the state and the families left behind.

“This generous support from the First Lady is a beacon of hope for the grieving families,” Dawakin Tofa said in a statement.

“The ₦5 million allocation to each family underscores her commitment to standing with Nigerians in their time of need and aiding their path to recovery.”

The Victim Support Fund, through which the donation was channeled, is designed to provide relief to families affected by tragedies, offering financial assistance to help them rebuild their lives.

The First Lady’s initiative has been lauded as a significant step toward addressing the immediate needs of the bereaved, many of whom have faced economic hardship since the tragedy.

Kano State authorities expressed gratitude for Senator Tinubu’s intervention, noting that the funds would help cover essential needs such as education, healthcare, and daily sustenance for the families.

The donation also highlights the First Lady’s ongoing advocacy for community welfare and support for vulnerable groups across Nigeria.

The announcement has sparked widespread appreciation on social media, with many Nigerians praising the First Lady’s empathy and swift action.

However, some have called for broader systemic measures to prevent similar accidents, including improved infrastructure and stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.

As the families begin to navigate their recovery, the donation serves as a reminder of the power of collective support in times of crisis.

The Kano State government has assured transparency in the disbursement of the funds, ensuring that the aid reaches the intended recipients promptly.
