Fayemi’s Media Office Debunks Claims of Founding ADC Coalition with Amaechi

The media office of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State, has firmly dismissed allegations that he and Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State, founded a new coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The claim, which has circulated widely on social and digital media, lacks credible evidence, according to a statement issued on August 10, 2025, by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head of Fayemi’s Media Office.

The statement addresses a purported claim by Amaechi suggesting that he and Fayemi initiated the ADC coalition before expanding it to include others.

Despite efforts to verify the statement, no video evidence or reports from reputable media outlets have been found to substantiate it.

“In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies,” Sajoh said, noting that Amaechi may not have made the statement or could have been misquoted.

The media office unequivocally denied the allegations, reaffirming Dr. Fayemi’s unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the APC in Ekiti State, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria,” the statement emphasized.

It highlighted Fayemi’s public endorsement of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election, underscoring his loyalty to the APC’s gubernatorial ticket.

The statement also clarified that Fayemi, known for his cross-party relationships, frequently engages in discussions about Nigeria’s democracy and development.

However, these conversations do not indicate any intention to defect from the APC. “If Dr. Fayemi were to leave the APC, he would announce it publicly and not rely on third parties,” Sajoh asserted, reiterating that Fayemi remains a principal APC member fully supporting the party in the upcoming Ekiti gubernatorial election.

Addressing speculation about Fayemi’s limited public visibility, the statement explained that he has been engaged as a visiting professor at King’s College London and as the founder of the Amandla Institute.

Despite this, Fayemi has remained active in Ekiti, attending APC leadership caucus meetings and publicly backing Governor Oyebanji’s re-election bid.

The media office urged the public to treat unverified social media claims about Fayemi with caution, warning against the spread of misinformation.

“We call on all to rely on credible sources and avoid engaging with narratives designed to provoke or profit,” Sajoh concluded.

The statement seeks to put to rest rumors about Fayemi’s political allegiance, reinforcing his dedication to the APC and his role in shaping Ekiti’s political future as the state prepares for its next election.
