The Ekiti State University Alumni Association has thrown its weight behind Governor Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji, purchasing the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for him ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
The forms were formally presented to the governor at a ceremony held at the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The gesture underscores the alumni association’s confidence in Oyebanji’s leadership and their desire to see him continue his tenure.
Speaking during the presentation, the association’s president, Engr. Dipo Bamisaye, praised Oyebanji’s achievements in infrastructure development, education, and youth empowerment since assuming office in 2022.
“Governor Oyebanji, an alumnus of our great institution, has demonstrated exceptional commitment to transforming Ekiti State. We believe he is the right candidate to consolidate the progress made and lead Ekiti to greater heights,” Bamisaye said.
The event was attended by prominent alumni, traditional leaders, and APC chieftains, who lauded the governor’s inclusive governance and focus on sustainable development.
The alumni also highlighted Oyebanji’s efforts in improving the welfare of civil servants and revitalizing the state’s agricultural sector as key reasons for their support.
In his response, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude for the alumni’s trust in his administration. “I am deeply honored by this gesture from my alma mater. It is a call to continue serving the people of Ekiti with dedication and transparency,” he stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy, particularly in areas of education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, as the state prepares for the 2026 election.
Political analysts see the alumni’s move as a strategic endorsement that could bolster Oyebanji’s re-election campaign within the APC and among Ekiti voters.
The 2026 governorship race is expected to be competitive, with opposition parties already mobilizing.
However, the governor’s track record and early support from influential groups like the Ekiti State University Alumni Association position him as a formidable contender.
The nomination forms, which officially signal Oyebanji’s intent to seek re-election under the APC, mark the beginning of a critical political phase in Ekiti State as parties gear up for primaries and campaigns in the coming months.
