EFCC Denies Targeting Obasanjo Presidential Library in Arrest of 93 Suspected Fraudsters

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that its recent operation, which led to the arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters, did not target the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

On Wednesday, OOPL management demanded N3.5 billion in compensation and a public apology from the EFCC, alleging the operation was an invasion of private property and a violation of its rights.

However, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale stated yesterday that the arrests occurred at a hotel within the OOPL premises, based on intelligence about a pool party linked to alleged illicit activities.

Oyewale disclosed that 23 of the suspects will face charges before Justice D. Dipeolu at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, today for alleged internet fraud.

He added that nearly all the suspects, who will be arraigned in batches, have been indicted for offenses including impersonation, identity fraud, and internet fraud.
