The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the ruling party is heading for defeat in 2027.
In a statement on Monday, Felix Morka, APC publicity
secretary, said the PDP governors are “projecting their own doomed fate” while
attempting to “mislead” Nigerians.
The PDP governors had met in Zamfara on August 23.
Afterwards, they issued a communique to say the APC is a party without vision
or direction, and one that faces imminent rejection in the next general
election.
However, Morka said it is “laughable” that leaders of a
party in “crisis and decline” would accuse others of lacking an agenda.
“The PDP has since collapsed and stands rejected by
Nigerians,” he said.
“Rather than focus on rescuing their terminally ill party,
the governors are wasting time hurling baseless accusations against the APC.”
Morka said the APC’s victory in the recent by-elections
shows that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are resonating with Nigerians.
He added that the outcome is proof of the electorate’s
confidence in the ruling party.
“It is infantile and irresponsible for PDP governors to hail
democracy where they won and condemn it where they lost,” Morka said.
“Victories and defeats in elections cannot become the
measure of credibility in our democratic process.”
The APC spokesperson said the ruling party’s wins in states
controlled by opposition parties, including Zamfara, Adamawa and Kano,
contradict PDP’s allegations of undemocratic practices.
‘HUMBLE PIE’
The spokesperson added that voters supported APC candidates
despite violence allegedly sponsored by opposition-controlled states.
Morka said the PDP governors should “eat the humble pie” and
accept that Nigerians have rejected their party.
“These inept governors are in no position to dictate to
Nigerians how to vote in 2027,” he said.
“The PDP has offered no credible policies in the last three
election cycles, and Nigerians have handed it repeated verdicts of failure.
“Wallowing in denial of the party’s expired political
vitality and relevance is a reckless betrayal by PDP Governors of their highly
disillusioned members still hanging hopelessly on straws of hope for an elusive
miracle to turn the tide for their party.”
He added that opposition politics must go beyond “finger
pointing at the APC” to providing credible alternatives.
According to him, PDP governors are among the “biggest
beneficiaries of Tinubu’s economic reforms”.
“Federal allocation to states has more than doubled under
this administration, with N2 trillion shared as of July 2025, the highest in
history,” he said.
“Yet PDP governors continue to fail their citizens with poor
governance.”
Morka said Nigeria will not return to “the dark days of
PDP’s misrule” when many states were unable to pay salaries.
“President Tinubu has set the country on a path of
prosperity and will not be distracted by PDP’s antics,” he said.
“Nigerians know the party that is working for their future,
and they will not be deceived by opposition leaders who cannot manage their own
states.”
He urged Nigerians to ignore what he called “empty rhetoric”
from the PDP and continue to support the Tinubu administration.
