Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has climbed to 8th place in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, released on August 14, 2025, following their historic fifth consecutive AfroBasket title win at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan.
With 640.1 ranking points, D’Tigress jumped three spots from 11th, solidifying their status as the only African team ever to break into the global top 10.
The team’s commanding 78–64 victory over their opponents in the AfroBasket final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville marked their seventh title and extended their unbeaten streak to 29 games since 2015.
The United States (880.9 points), Australia (719.6), France (719.2), China (712.7), and Belgium (702.1) lead the rankings, with Spain and Canada preceding Nigeria in the top eight.
Other notable movements include South Sudan’s remarkable third-place finish on their AfroBasket debut, Lithuania’s 14-place rise to 31st, Lebanon’s climb to 41st, Indonesia’s 19-spot jump to 60th, Iran’s rise to 44th, and Mongolia’s 20-place leap to 70th, reflecting strong performances across global tournaments.
