Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, categorically dismissed rumors of joining an opposition alliance, reaffirming his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Sunday Politics, Mustapha emphasized his role as a founding member of the ruling party, highlighting his position as deputy national chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) during the 2013 merger that birthed the APC.
“I am not in any opposition alliance, and I am not in any discussion with those who are involved,” Mustapha declared.
“As the deputy national chairman of the ACN, the largest political party with six governors at the time of the merger, I can rightly claim that I am one of the founding fathers of the governing party.”
He stressed that his loyalty lies with the APC, adding, “I cannot, in all reasonableness, walk away from a party I helped to form. If our party has problems, as all the other parties do, we will stay in the party and fix those problems. We don’t solve problems by decamping to other parties."
Mustapha’s remarks come amid speculations about his potential defections and political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
His statement aims to quell rumors and underscore his dedication to resolving internal APC challenges, particularly as the party navigates leadership disputes and policy criticisms.
