Bianca Ojukwu-Odumegwu, minister of state for foreign affairs, says Nigeria’s concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza was a key highlight of her meeting with Sharren Haskel-Harpaz, Israeli vice-foreign minister.
Both ministers met in Abuja on Monday at the Nigeria-Israel
round of political consultations.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ojukwu-Odumegwu said the
deliberations focused on critical areas of mutual interest as well as global
realities, most particularly the ongoing crisis surrounding the Israel-Hamas
war.
The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to a two-state
solution, a discourse that has drawn renewed global attention amid the worsening
humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Ojukwu-Odumegwu said Nigeria’s security priorities were also
discussed with a view to expanding partnerships in innovation.
According to a joint communiqué, both parties stressed the
importance of enhancing cooperation in intelligence gathering and information
sharing, particularly regarding terror financing, and the need for advanced
security training.
The minister also listed agriculture, water management, ICT,
renewable energy, education, ports and border management, as well as concluding
pending memoranda of understanding (MOUs) on education and audiovisual
co-production, as focus areas.
Haskel-Harpaz reiterated Israel’s commitment to
strengthening its bilateral relations and cooperation with Nigeria.
