The Anambra State Government has outlawed the practice of writing assignments in textbooks, citing it as wasteful and unsustainable.
The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a capacity-building workshop for private school proprietors and teachers at St. John of God Secondary School, Awka.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh stated that the ban aims to ensure textbooks can be reused, particularly by younger siblings advancing to the next class.
She emphasized strict compliance, warning that the government will not tolerate violations.
The commissioner urged parents, teachers, and school administrators to adhere to the directive and report non-compliance to the Ministry of Education.
The initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to reduce financial burdens on families while fostering sustainable, high-quality education.
