The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has fired back at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its defectors, calling them “prodigal sons” who joined a “one-chance vehicle” and are now resorting to “irresponsible verbal attacks” out of frustration.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 25, 2025, by Director-General Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the Forum defended its recent meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, against accusations of insensitivity amid the state’s security challenges.
The ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, had criticized the PDP governors’ dinner and gathering in Gusau as an “insensitive jamboree,” arguing it disregarded the plight of Zamfara residents affected by recent bandit attacks.
Some Zamfara locals echoed this sentiment. In response, the PDP Governors’ Forum dismissed the accusations as baseless, asserting that the ADC was attempting to score cheap political points.
“Ordinarily, we would not dignify their attacks with a response, but we must correct the false narrative being pushed on Nigerians,” Agbo stated.
He clarified that the Gusau meeting, far from being a spontaneous event, was a planned deliberation on critical national issues, including insecurity.
The Forum’s communique commended Zamfara State’s efforts to curb insecurity while condemning ongoing violence in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and other states, urging the federal government to prioritize citizens’ safety.
Agbo described the ADC as a disorganized coalition, labeling defectors—reportedly including high-profile figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others—as “prodigal children” whose exit has strengthened the PDP.
“Since their departure, the PDP has become more formidable and focused,” he said, accusing the ADC of fostering division and entitlement that once hindered national unity.
The Forum also expressed openness to welcoming back repentant defectors who show genuine remorse, likening them to the biblical prodigal son.
“The ADC’s failure to empathize with affected communities, such as through visits, shows their focus on political theatrics rather than solutions,” Agbo added.
The PDP governors emphasized that the security crisis was a central focus of their discussions, dismissing the ADC’s critique as a sign of their inability to grasp the meeting’s substance.
