Tinubu directed us to End Strikes in Tertiary Institutions  - Education Minister

The Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, is dedicated to preventing industrial actions by unions in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, according to Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Alausa revealed that President Tinubu has directed his cabinet to ensure no future strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) or other tertiary institution unions.

“The President has made it clear that ASUU and other trade unions must not go on strike again,” he stated.

Alausa emphasized that the administration is focusing on consistent engagement and trust-building with unions, setting it apart from past governments.

“It’s not just about promises; it’s about building relationships and meeting obligations,” he said.

He also dismissed rumors of an impending strike, affirming the government’s proactive stance in fulfilling commitments to unions like COEASU, NASU, and SSANU.

This follows the suspension of a strike by ASUU’s Yobe State University branch, which began on July 11, 2025.

The branch chairman, Ahmed Karage, announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Yobe State Government, resolving key demands.

“The ASUU president has approved the suspension of the strike, and members are to resume work immediately,” Karage said.Alausa highlighted that ongoing reforms are yielding positive results, with some Nigerian universities earning global recognition in recent rankings.
