Super Falcons Arrive Lagos as Captain Rasheedat Ajibade Leads the Team

The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, touched down in Lagos on July 30, 2025, to a hero’s welcome following their triumphant victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Led by their inspirational captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, the team was greeted by ecstatic fans who had waited for hours at Lagos airport to celebrate their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

The Super Falcons secured a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final on July 26, 2025, at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium.

The match saw Nigeria overcome a 2-0 deficit with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini, showcasing the team’s resilience and tactical prowess under interim coach Justine Madugu.

Ajibade, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, played a pivotal role with her leadership and dynamic presence, earning her third Player of the Match award of the tournament.

Upon arrival, the team, adorned in their green and white kits, was met with vibrant cheers, traditional music, and dances from fans chanting “Mission Accomplished!” in reference to the team’s goal of securing their 10th title.

Ajibade, sporting her signature electric blue hair, waved to the crowd, visibly moved by the reception. “This is for Nigeria, for the young girls dreaming big, and for every fan who believed in us,” she said, echoing her earlier remarks at a presidential reception in Abuja on July 28.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joined the celebrations, praising the team’s discipline and talent.

“This victory is a testament to what Nigeria can achieve when we unite for a common goal,” he stated on social media, noting that Lagos was ready to host the champions.
