The Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda Housing Scheme has officially begun in Calabar, Cross River State, with the acquisition and handover of 25 acres of land in Adiabo community.
The project is a key component of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at providing sustainable and affordable housing solutions across Nigeria. The Cross River State Government generously donated the land for the project, demonstrating its commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government on development initiatives.
The initial phase will comprise 120 housing units, including one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats, designed to be expandable at affordable rates. Eight contractors have been awarded the project, with four focusing on infrastructure and four on building residential units. The housing units are tailored to reduce costs for civil servants and average-income earners, with a phased execution strategy to ensure timely completion and handover.
The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, thanked the Governor for the swift approval of land and commended the President of the Senate for securing the project's siting in Calabar. Community leaders and residents expressed optimism and pledged to cooperate with the Federal Government to ensure the project's success.
Contractors are expected to mobilize to the site within the next two to three weeks, pending final fund disbursement.
The Federal Government remains committed to delivering the project, which is expected to provide affordable housing solutions for Nigerians in Cross River State.
