Remi Tinubu Donates ₦1bn to Displaced Families in Benue

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to support displaced families in Benue State, a region heavily impacted by conflicts and natural disasters.

She made the announcement at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House on Tuesday, during her condolence visit to the state, following the attack on Yelewata community in June, which claimed over 100 lives.

According to her, the donation, aligned with the mission of the Renewed Hope Initiative, is intended to help displaced families regain stability, return to their livelihoods, and build better lives.

Speaking at a ceremony in Makurdi, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that the donation aims to provide relief and foster resilience among affected families.

“This contribution is intended to help displaced families regain stability, return to their livelihoods, and build better lives,” she said.

The funds will support essential needs such as food, shelter, healthcare, and vocational training to empower families to rebuild.

The donation targets thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps across Benue, where communal clashes, banditry, and flooding have displaced communities for years.

The state government, led by Governor Hyacinth Alia, commended the gesture, noting its potential to alleviate suffering and complement ongoing efforts to rehabilitate IDPs.

Local leaders and beneficiaries expressed gratitude, with many calling the donation a lifeline for families struggling to survive.

The funds will be disbursed through a transparent process, overseen by the RHI in collaboration with state authorities, to ensure accountability and effective utilization.

Senator Tinubu also urged private organizations and philanthropists to join in addressing the humanitarian crisis, emphasizing collective responsibility.

Her visit included a tour of IDP camps, where she interacted with families and assessed their needs firsthand.

This significant contribution marks a step toward addressing the protracted displacement crisis in Benue, offering hope to families striving to reclaim their futures.
