A road project in Plateau State worth N12 million awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works in 2024, has gone under after it was washed away by flood less than a year after completion.
A report shared by TrackaNG, a civic accountability
organization, which enables citizens to collaborate, track and give feedback on
public projects in their community, revealed that the project which was for the
resurfacing and dressing of the Kogin Kasar Wase-Tofar Road in Plateau State,
was abandoned, leaving several portions of the road impassable, thus raising
concerns about the quality of work executed.
The expose disclosed that the project was poorly implemented
despite the funds allocated in the 2024 Federal Government budget with most
parts of the road already deteriorated, while some sections are no longer
motorable, depriving residents of its intended benefit.
The civic group has now called on the federal government to
compel the contractors to complete and remediate the project.
TrackaNG said, ”we calls on the Federal Ministry of Works,
specifically its roads department @FedRoadsNGR, to release full details of the
project and compel Sahar Continental Ltd to return to the site to correct the
shoddy work,” the organization said in a post on its X handle.
“This incident highlights recurring issues with
accountability in Nigeria’s public infrastructure projects, where contractors
often deliver substandard work despite significant government spending.
”Citizens are demanding greater transparency and stricter
oversight to prevent such failures from recurring,” it added.
