The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and some roads in the Alausa-Secretariat area of Lagos State were deserted on Saturday morning as the state holds local government elections. It can be observed that the roads are not as busy as usual.
The police in Lagos had announced movement restrictions throughout the state and pledged commitment to ensure a peaceful poll on Saturday.
Officers of the Lagos State Police Command were earlier sited along the Lagos Assembly road around 7am as they warmed up to be deployed to strategic locations in the area.
Meanwhile, Vehicular and pedestrian movements were brought to a halt at the Berger axis of Lagos on Saturday morning as security operatives barricaded access routes into the state ahead of the local government elections.
According to Punch, it could be observed that scores of commuters were stranded while several vehicles were turned back at the ever-busy point at 7:32am.
A combined team of policemen, Federal Road Safety Corps officers were seen enforcing movement restrictions.
Military personnel were also seen patrolling the route.
The barricade caused long queues of stationary vehicles as passengers alighted and trekked considerable distances to their destinations.
