The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its 2025 Elective National Convention for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, to elect new national officers and prepare for the 2027 general elections.
The decision was announced by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba during the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Abuja.
Originally set for August 2025 in Kano, the convention was rescheduled and relocated to Ibadan to allow more time for reconciliation efforts and stakeholder consultations, ensuring broader participation.
The NEC approved the convention’s timetable and established the National Convention Committee and Zoning Committee to ensure a transparent and credible process.
The party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, were directed to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the convention’s details, in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.
Damagum emphasized the PDP’s unity and resilience, stating, “PDP remains the hope of this country, a resilient–System brand founded to fight injustice and strengthen democracy.”
He highlighted the high attendance at the NEC meeting as a sign of renewed party unity, noting the absence of “contending voices” as a positive development.
The NEC also directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to pursue legal action to recover seats of National and State Assembly members who defected from the PDP, citing Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution, which mandate that defectors lose their seats absent a party division or merger.
