Ibukun Fadipe, a prominent chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State and chairman of the State Universal Education Board, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu pleaded with Governor Ademola Adeleke to secure his endorsement for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on a radio program monitored by The Guardian on July 28, Fadipe revealed that Adeleke agreed to support Tinubu only after demanding federal refunds for state-funded repairs of federal roads, construction of other dilapidated federal roads, and additional development projects to enhance Osun State’s infrastructure.
Fadipe emphasized that Governor Adeleke’s decision was driven by the state’s developmental needs, not personal or party gain, and clarified that Adeleke has no intention of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He noted that Adeleke’s strong performance as governor ensures his re-election prospects in the 2026 governorship election without reliance on federal support.
According to Fadipe, Tinubu sent emissaries and an independent team to Osun, which confirmed the PDP’s dominance in the state, prompting the president to seek Adeleke’s backing.
Fadipe also criticized the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for failing to adequately represent Osun’s interests at the federal level, necessitating Adeleke’s strategic political deal with Tinubu.
He added that despite resistance from some PDP members, the governor was swayed by persistent entreaties from the president’s representatives.In a related development, the APC in Osun State held a closed-door meeting on July 28 at the Ilobu residence of its elders’ caucus chairman, Sola Akinwumi.
The meeting, attended by gubernatorial aspirants, focused on fostering unity and strategizing for the party’s primary election scheduled for November 2025.
