Tunbosun Awe, a political aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, has resigned from his position as Ward Liaison Officer, citing the meager ₦20,000 monthly salary.
Awe expressed frustration that the salary is far below the national minimum wage of ₦70,000 and doesn't reflect current economic realities.
Awe highlighted the significant disparity between his salary and the national minimum wage, emphasizing the challenges of living with such a low income. Despite multiple attempts to discuss a salary review with Senator Ipinsagba, Awe's efforts were unsuccessful, leading to his resignation.
According to him, “This is sequel to the N20,000 monthly salary payment to me, which is against the present economic realities and a far cry from the national minimum wage of N70,000.
“In addition, an audience had been sought with you at different intervals of the need to increase the pay, all to no avail.
“Especially, when it is fully established with you that N20,000 is the same amount you offered me as your personal assistant in 2007.
“Destiny brought us together in 2006, when your Senatorial bid was birthed with the caption, Concept 2007, while I served as the secretary of your campaign structure in Ondo North Senatorial District,”
Awe served Senator Ipinsagba in various capacities since 2006, including as secretary of his campaign structure and personal assistant during his tenure under late Governor Olusegun Agagu.
Bankole Akerele, a loyalist of Senator Ipinsagba, described Awe's resignation as ungrateful, suggesting that Awe should have shown more appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
Akerele alleged that Awe's resignation might be linked to his shift in loyalty to another political leader.
