The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has dismissed reports of delayed allowances for the Super Falcons as they gear up for their final match against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on July 26.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Dikko clarified that all entitlements, including match bonuses and allowances for players, coaches, and officials, have been fully processed and disbursed.
Dikko emphasized that President Bola Tinubu personally approved the immediate release of funds to ensure the team’s focus remains on securing victory.
“There is no truth to claims of delayed payments. The President has prioritized the welfare of our athletes, and all dues have been settled promptly,” he stated.
He described the swift action as part of a broader commitment to revolutionize sports administration in Nigeria, ensuring timely and transparent payments.
“This is a new era for Nigerian sports—one where athletes are treated with respect and dignity. No more drama over allowances,” Dikko said.
The NSC Chairman also revealed that the initiative extends to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are set to compete in the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire.
He confirmed that the team will benefit from improved allowances and bonuses, aligning with the administration’s vision for equitable support across sports.
Dikko praised President Tinubu’s reforms, noting that they are laying a foundation for sustainable growth in the sports sector.
“These steps will inspire confidence in our athletes and ensure future generations reap the rewards of a well-structured system,” he added.
As the Super Falcons prepare to face Morocco, Dikko urged Nigerians to rally behind the team, expressing optimism about their chances of clinching the WAFCON title.
