Nigeria Signs Technical Manpower Assistance Agreement with Saint Lucia, to Deploy Skilled Professionals

Nigeria has taken a significant step in deepening South-South cooperation and reconnecting with the African diaspora by signing a Technical Manpower Assistance (TMA) Agreement with Saint Lucia.

The agreement, signed in Castries, Saint Lucia, will enable the deployment of Nigerian professionals, including teachers, doctors, and agriculturists, to Saint Lucia and other Caribbean nations.

Nigerian professionals will volunteer for two years, with Nigeria covering allowances and logistics, while host countries provide accommodation and support. The initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria's global influence through strategic partnerships and promote cultural exchange.

The deployment aligns with President Bola Tinubu's 4D foreign policy, which focuses on Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography.

Since May 2023, over 300 Nigerian professionals have been deployed across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. More deployments are underway, with four nurses scheduled to leave for Jamaica and six medical doctors set for Grenada.

Talks are ongoing with Belize, the Dominican Republic, and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to create a regional framework for further cooperation.

The TMA Agreement is a significant step in promoting South-South cooperation and strengthening Nigeria's global influence. The deployment of Nigerian professionals will not only provide technical assistance but also promote cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy.
