George Agbakahi, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserted that Nigerians are experiencing better times under President Bola Tinubu compared to the era of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Arise Television’s News programme on Thursday, Agbakahi defended Tinubu’s administration, highlighting initiatives that he claims have significantly improved the lives of Nigerians. He said: “Of course, Nigeria of today is a lot better than Nigeria of the PDP days. Yes, look at some of the initiatives that the current president has put in place.
Agbakahi pointed to the introduction of student loans and free vocational training as landmark achievements absent during PDP’s tenure.
“Did you ever hear about student loans during the PDP days? The President has put smiles on the faces of Nigerian parents,” he said, emphasizing free access to carpentry and welding programs.
He also praised the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, initiatives he noted were nonexistent under PDP governance.
Addressing concerns about rising multidimensional poverty, Agbakahi attributed economic hardships to the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate—policies he claimed past presidents, including Obasanjo, Yar’adua, Jonathan, and Buhari, recognized as necessary but failed to implement.
“Tinubu took the bold step. It was tough, but it’s easing up now,” he argued.
He further highlighted economic interventions, such as the Bank of Industry’s ₦200 billion fund for small and medium enterprises and a ₦100 billion youth fund, as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to progress.
“You cannot compare the PDP days to this administration,” Agbakahi concluded, dismissing any notion of equivalence.
