NAFDAC Warns on Recalled Multivitamin Supplements Due to Poisoning Risk

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public to the recall of certain multivitamin and iron supplements in the United States due to a risk of serious injury or death from poisoning, particularly among young children.

Recalled Products

- Daily Prenatal Multi: A multivitamin supplement for pregnant women

- Ultamins Women's Multivitamin: A multivitamin supplement for women

- Ultamins Women's 50+ Multivitamin: A multivitamin supplement for women over 50

The recall was prompted by the lack of child-resistant packaging, making the supplements accessible to young children who may ingest them, leading to potentially life-threatening situations, including.

- Vomiting

- Stomach pain

- Low blood pressure

- Liver damage

NAFDAC has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor and remove the affected products from circulation. The agency urges distributors, retailers, healthcare providers, and caregivers to be vigilant and prevent the use or sale of the recalled items.
