Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has intensified its efforts to remove fake accounts and spam from its platforms.
In the first half of 2025, Meta removed over 10 million fake profiles and approximately 500,000 spam accounts as part of its broader initiative to combat impersonation, fake engagement, and content duplication.
Action was taken against around 500,000 accounts engaged in spammy behavior or fake engagement. Accounts primarily reposting or recycling content without meaningful edits may face reduced reach and loss of monetization tools.
Meta is introducing tools to automatically trace reposted content back to its original source, ensuring rightful credit and higher visibility for original posts.
Meta notes that pages and profiles posting mostly original content tend to enjoy wider distribution across Facebook.
“Pages and profiles that post mostly original content tend to enjoy wider distribution across Facebook. Simply stitching clips together or adding a watermark will no longer count as meaningful editing. Content that provides real value and tells an authentic story is likely to perform better,” Meta explained.

Uploading content with watermarks from other platforms could lead to restricted reach or loss of monetization privileges.
