Kwankwaso Pays Tribute at Buhari’s Gravesite in Daura, Offers Condolences to Family

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, visited the gravesite of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, to pay his respects and offer condolences to the Buhari family.

Accompanied by Kano State Deputy Governor Alhaji Buba Galadima and other political associates, Kwankwaso’s visit comes days after Buhari’s burial, which followed his passing on July 13, 2025, at a London clinic at the age of 82.

Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and head of the Kwankwasiyya movement, arrived at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina before proceeding to Daura, Buhari’s hometown.

The visit was part of a series of condolence gestures by political leaders across Nigeria mourning the loss of Buhari, who served as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.

In a statement shared on X, Kwankwaso expressed profound shock at Buhari’s death, describing him as a leader whose decades of public service and sacrifice left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s unity and development.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire nation,” Kwankwaso said, praying for Allah to grant Buhari eternal peace in Aljannatul Firdaus.

The visit, confirmed by Buhari’s former aide Bashir Ahmad on X, underscores the deep political ties between the two northern leaders, despite past rivalries, including Kwankwaso’s loss to Buhari in the 2015 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries.

The atmosphere in Daura remains somber, with thousands of sympathizers continuing to visit the Buhari family residence to honor the late statesman. Buhari was laid to rest on July 15, 2025, in a solemn Islamic ceremony attended by dignitaries, including President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Kwankwaso’s tribute adds to the outpouring of grief and respect for a leader remembered for his austerity, anti-corruption stance, and polarizing yet impactful legacy.
