Katsina State Government has approved ₦703 million to bolster security at 14 general hospitals in high-risk areas by reconstructing perimeter fences and installing barricades.
The decision, finalized during Thursday’s State Executive Council meeting in Katsina, aims to safeguard healthcare workers and patients, according to Dr. Sani Magaji-Ingawa, Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport.
The hospitals are located in Kankara, Malumfashi, Faskari, Jibia, Funtua, Kafur, Dandume, Musawa, Batsari, Dutsin-Ma, Kurfi, Danmusa, Katsina metropolis, and Amadi Rimi.
“This is part of our strategy to fortify health institutions in volatile regions,” Magaji-Ingawa told reporters.
The council also approved ₦1.3 billion to upgrade the Comprehensive Health Centre in Mai’adua into a full general hospital.
Additionally, ₦18.5 billion was allocated for the Rafin Iya–Tashar Bawa–Sabuwa road project, which Magaji-Ingawa said will boost security operations, agricultural transport, and trade.
In another move, Dr. Bala Salisu-Zango, Commissioner for Information and Culture, announced ₦747.3 million for a new Security Consultative Centre in the state capital.
The facility will serve as a hub for inter-agency security coordination and will be handed over to the Federal Government upon completion, aligning with Katsina’s broader security reform efforts.
