Australian authorities have barred US rapper Kanye West from entering the country due to the antisemitic content in his recent song ‘Heil Hitler‘, which glorifies Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
Tony Burke, Australia’s home affairs minister, confirmed the
decision in an interview on ABC’s Afternoon Briefing program.
According to him,
West, who is married to Australian designer Bianca Censori and has
family ties in the country, would not be allowed to enter under current
circumstances.
Burke emphasised that the Australian government would not
tolerate individuals who promote antisemitism or islamophobia.
“If someone argued that anti-Semitism was rational, I would
not let them come here, West has been coming to Australia for a long time, he
has family here and he has made a lot of offensive comments,” he said.
While it remains unclear whether the ban is permanent, Burke
added that all visa applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis under
Australian law.
The controversial track which was independently released on
May 8, 2025, has already been removed from major streaming platforms, including
Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube, due to its inflammatory lyrics.
Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician who was the
dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 until his suicide in 1945. He rose to power
as the leader of the Nazi Party.
This is not the first time West has faced backlash for
antisemitic rhetoric.
In 2022, he made headlines for claiming that “Jewish people
control Hollywood,” leading to the later termination of his long-standing
partnership with sportswear giant Adidas.
