JAMB rectifies FUTA graduate’s admission status after claim of illegality

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rectified the admission status of Jamiu Basola, a 2024 Civil Engineering graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

The development ends weeks of controversy surrounding his eligibility for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

Adeyemi Ajasa, the PRO of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), confirmed this in a statement on Monday.

Ajasa said JAMB has reactivated Basola’s portal and included his name on the matriculation list, a requirement for NYSC mobilisation.

Basola’s academic future was in jeopardy after his admission was flagged as “fake” by JAMB, despite him completing his studies with a cumulative grade point average of 4.41.

His case gained public attention after he shared his predicament on social media, alleging that JAMB invalidated his admission seven years after he began his university education.

Ajasa attributed the resolution to sustained pressure from NANS national leadership and its southwest zone.

It also commended the FUTA civil engineering department for its efforts in clarifying Basola’s admission status with JAMB.

NANS pledged to monitor Basola’s case to ensure his full mobilisation in the next NYSC batch.

“Jamiu’s fight was indeed our fight, and his victory is a triumph for every Nigerian student,” the association said.
