Juma Jux, the Tanzanian music star, has revealed how he convinced Priscilla Ojo, his wife, to convert to Islam.
The lovebirds held their traditional and white weddings
in Lagos in April, following their Islamic traditional wedding in Dar es
Salaam, Tanzania, in February.
They wrapped up the wedding festivities with a grand
ceremony in Tanzania.
In a recent
interview on the Millard Ayo podcast, Jux said it was challenging
to convince Priscilla to embrace Islam.
The ‘Ololufe’ hitmaker, however, admitted that patience and
guidance from religious leaders played a crucial role.
“A little bit difficult to convince my wife. On the other
hand, I received lessons from religious leaders, and people who were keen about
the religion, so, there was a way that they were teaching me about how to
convince her, go with her slowly, teach her this and that, tell her this and
that. So I took some time. She later understood,” he said.
The 35-year-old songwriter explained that their Nikkah
ceremony in Tanzania marked their official Islamic marriage.
Jux added that Priscilla, now bearing the Islamic name
Hadizah Mkambala, is gradually learning about the religion.
“Our office marriage was the Nikkah,” he said.
“She is now officially known as Hadizah Mkambala. She is
learning slowly. Currently educating her on these things slowly.
”Because the change cannot be drastic. Where she comes from,
she is a true believer of her faith. But I told her that in the future. You may
never know, you are going to have a family.
“I tried to convince her and all, she agreed. So we had the
Nikkah ceremony.
“After that, we had the civil wedding. The government
ceremony. That was the official purpose. Because the plan is to live in
Tanzania, she needs to get the papers. Because she needs to live here.”
