Ayodele Omidina, the wife of Babatunde Omidina, the late Yoruba comic actor popularly known as Baba Suwe, has revealed the reason behind their separation.
In a recent interview with Kunle Afod, Ayodele disclosed
that the late actor “abandoned” her after marrying his colleague Omoladun.
She said despite her efforts and interventions from others,
Baba Suwe never provided an explanation for ending their marriage.
“It’s true, Baba Suwe abandoned me after he married
Omoladun. He didn’t give any explanation despite several people going to meet
him for reconciliation,” she said.
“So I accepted my fate. However, he still took care of his
kids.”
On how they met, she said: “We have been together since 1979
before he started acting. I was still in school when he said he wanted to marry
me.”
Ayodele also revealed how the separation affected her acting
career. According to her, Baba Suwe discouraged filmmakers from casting her by
spreading the notion that she was solely a housewife.
“I stopped featuring in movies after we separated, but I
wasn’t hurt that people stopped calling me for roles because that was something
Baba Suwe had already put in place,” she added.
“He used to tell people that they couldn’t cast me all the
time because I was a full housewife. That mindset stuck with many of them,
which is why they still don’t reach out for movie roles. However, I’m still
interested.”
Baba Suwa was born on August 22, 1958. He died on November
22, 2021.
In her tribute, Ayodele said her late husband was a very
determined person, who believed in hard work and was dedicated to whatever he
wanted to do.
“I married ‘Baba Suwe’ when he was nobody, there was nothing
with him then, so, I knew him very well as a very determined person that wanted
to be a great man despite all odds,” she had said.
Omoladun, a comedienne, passed away in September 2009.
