Goodluck Jonathan’s Legally Binding Single Term Outweighs Obi’s Promise- Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, former media aide to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, advocated for former President Goodluck Jonathan as the ideal candidate for the North’s interests in 2027.

Sani argued On Trust TV’s Daily Politics programme on Saturday, that Jonathan’s constitutional one-term limit ensures he would serve only four years, securing a clear path for Northern leadership in 2031.

Sani emphasized that supporting Jonathan would complete the South’s eight-year tenure, following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years as a Northern leader.

“I prefer Jonathan, not because I dislike Obi, but because his four-year limit is legally binding,” Sani said, contrasting this with Peter Obi’s non-binding promise of a single term.

Highlighting political certainty, Sani noted, “Jonathan must leave after four years by law, unlike a promise that may or may not be kept.”

While acknowledging Obi’s integrity, he stressed that legal guarantees outweigh verbal commitments for the North’s strategic interests.

Amid speculations of the PDP wooing Obi, who left the party before 2023, Sani cautioned that any Southern candidate supported in 2027 must align with the power rotation principle, ending in 2031.

“It’s about equity. The South completes eight years, then the North returns. That ensures stability,” he concluded.
