A coalition of opposition parties in Gombe State is gearing up for the 2027 general elections, with leaders expressing confidence in their ability to form a government.
The coalition comprises several parties, including the Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), African Action Congress (AAC), and a faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
The coalition has started visiting local government areas to mobilize more politicians and garner support for their cause.
At a recent stakeholders' meeting, Mohammed Barde, leader of the Gombe State Coalition Working Group and former PDP governorship candidate, urged members to mobilize people across the state's 114 wards.
Barde criticized the current APC-led government in Gombe and at the federal level, citing widespread hardship and governance failures as reasons for the coalition's determination to take over.
The coalition is rallying support and preparing for a strong challenge in the 2027 elections, with a focus on addressing the state's issues and providing better governance.
“The opposition coalition would unite to bring the APC out of power and make life better for the citizens,” he declared.
State SDP chairman, Adamu Modibbo, revealed that the coalition comprises no fewer than 19 political parties, making it a formidable force.
Meanwhile, Adamu Aliyu Danmakka, chairman of the Governorship Candidates Forum, expressed confidence that the opposition parties’ alliance will lead to victory in 2027, noting that the present governor also formed a government through an alliance in 2019.
