Adamu Waziri, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Minister of Police Affairs, has resigned from the party.
In a statement made at Dogo Tebo ward in Yobe State, Waziri cited the party's current leadership and tone as inconsistent with his expectations for a major party.
Waziri expressed dissatisfaction with the PDP's leadership, stating that it does not offer members an alternative platform to exercise their right to choice in electoral contests. He emphasized that the party's current state is not aligned with his vision for a robust opposition.
Waziri announced that he will be joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with immediate effect. This move follows a recent wave of defections from the PDP, with several key figures shifting allegiance to both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ADC.
The ADC has gained momentum in recent weeks, with a coalition of opposition leaders unveiling it as their joint platform to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections.
The party's growing strength could pose a challenge to the ruling party and other opposition parties in the country.
