Former Governor, Sen Bindow Jibrilla Registers, Picks ADC Card in Mubi North, Adamawa

Former Adamawa State Governor and ex-Senator Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) today, July 28, 2025, after registering and collecting his membership card in Mubi North Local Government Area.

The move marks his formal departure from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a significant shift in his political journey ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bindow, who served as governor from 2015 to 2019 and represented Adamawa North Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015, cited unresolved internal crises within the PDP as a key reason for his defection.

His transition to the ADC follows months of speculation, with social media posts confirming his resignation from the PDP on July 27, 2025, and his induction into the ADC the following day.

“After deep prayers and wide consultations with family, stakeholders, and supporters, I have decided to join the ADC to champion unity and development in Adamawa State,” Bindow stated in a letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Kolere Ward, Mubi North.

The former governor’s move strengthens the ADC’s growing influence in Adamawa, as he joins other prominent figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, the 2023 APC governorship candidate, in the party’s ranks.

Political analysts see Bindow’s defection as a strategic effort to bolster the ADC’s coalition, with expectations that he will play a pivotal role in mobilizing support for the party in the state.

Residents of Mubi North gathered to witness Bindow’s registration, with many expressing optimism about his potential to drive development through the ADC platform.

Bindow, known for establishing three companies in Mubi that employ about 400 people, is expected to leverage his influence as a business tycoon and vibrant speaker to advance the party’s agenda.

The ADC’s momentum in Adamawa is gaining traction, with Bindow’s defection seen as a boost for the party’s ambition to challenge the dominance of the PDP and APC in the state.

As the 2027 elections approach, all eyes will be on how Bindow’s political realignment shapes the region’s political landscape.
