Barr Ibrahim Kashim, former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in 2023, has resigned from the PDP.
In a letter dated July 21, 2025, obtained by reporters,, Kashim did not disclose the reasons for his departure.
Expressing gratitude to his ward’s PDP leadership, Kashim noted that his membership enabled his nomination as the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer in the 2023 elections.
Months before the polls, he stepped down from the race to support Governor Bala Mohammed’s presidential bid.
Kashim highlighted his extensive campaign efforts across Bauchi Local Government alongside Mohammed, despite his duties as SSG, contributing to the governor’s victory in nearly all wards, overcoming historical challenges for second-term candidates.
In his letter, Kashim stated, “After due consideration, I have, effective the date of this letter, resigned my membership of the PDP and hope to explore other avenues of seeking the mandate of our people to serve them with the same commitment, passion, honesty of purpose, trustworthiness, and above all fear of Allah SWT.”
Kashim, who resigned from the state government in January 2025 at the governor’s directive, is speculated to be eyeing the governorship seat on a different political platform, though he has not yet announced his new party affiliation.
