Fire Guts Ibadan Shopping Complex, Destroys Properties Worth Millions

A devastating fire incident occurred at a shopping complex in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

The fire affected five out of the 10 shops in the building, which is located beside Akin-Alamu Building on Papa Alakia Isebo Road.

According to Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform and Agency Chairman, the fire was caused by an electric surge that ignited nearby combustibles.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the incident. Akinwande confirmed this in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan.

He said, “On Tuesday, 1st June,2025, at exactly 23:22hrs, the incident was reported through a telephone call by Mr. Olarewaju that there was a fire incident at the above-stated address. Firefighters, led by CFS Adesina Olusoji, promptly deployed to the scene of the incident, and upon arrival, we found shops engulfed in flames. We quickly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to unaffected nearby shops and properties.

”The fire was completely extinguished, and necessary salvage was done. The fire affected five out of 10 shops, and the agency’s personnel saved properties worth millions of naira.”

Akinwande urged the public to take precautions to prevent fire outbreaks. He advised people to always switch off and unplug electrical appliances when not in use, especially after closing their workplaces.
