FCT Primary School Teachers' Strike Enters 100th Day, Government Appeals for Dialogue

The indefinite strike by primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has entered its 100th day, prompting the Federal Government to appeal for dialogue and swift resolution of the crisis.

The strike, which began on March 24, 2025, has paralyzed learning in over 400 public primary schools across the FCT, leaving thousands of pupils unattended. The strike was sparked by the failure of area councils to implement the N70,000 minimum wage agreement signed in December 2024.

The Federal Ministry of Education has appealed for dialogue and unity to resolve the crisis, valuing the commitment of Nigerian teachers to the country's foundational education system.

Looming crisis has also led to protests by other groups, including the Smallholder Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria (SWOFON) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which plans to stage a mass protest on Wednesday July 2, 2025.
