Former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dibu Ojerinde, has notified the Federal High Court in Abuja of his intent to pursue an out-of-court settlement in the N5.2 billion fraud case brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Facing an 18-count charge for alleged financial misappropriation during his tenure at JAMB and the National Examinations Council (NECO), Ojerinde’s counsel, Eteya Ogana, informed the court during Wednesday’s hearing that both parties are engaged in discussions to resolve the matter administratively.
Ogana requested a post-vacation adjournment to report on the talks.ICPC’s counsel, Lesie Iheduru, confirmed the ongoing reconciliation efforts and did not object to the request. Justice Obiora Egwuatu adjourned the case to October 20, 2025, for a settlement update or for Ojerinde to begin his defense if negotiations fail.
Previously, the court dismissed Ojerinde’s no-case submission, ruling that the ICPC had established sufficient grounds for him to answer the charges.
The ICPC alleges Ojerinde diverted N5.2 billion in government funds. Arraigned in July 2021, he has pleaded not guilty. A prior plea bargain attempt in 2022 collapsed.
