Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised serious concerns over the escalating spread of ethnic bigotry in Nigeria, warning that it is growing “hopelessly like wildfire” while the nation watches in silence.
In a passionate post shared on his Facebook page, Igbokwe decried the deepening divisions fueled by tribalism, urging Nigerians to confront the issue before it further undermines national unity.
“Ethnic bigotry is spreading at an alarming rate in Nigeria, and everyone is just watching,” Igbokwe wrote, describing the trend as a dangerous threat to the country’s social fabric.
He pointed to the increasing polarization in public discourse, particularly on social media platforms like X, where inflammatory rhetoric and tribal sentiments have gained traction.
Igbokwe’s comments come amid growing tensions over political appointments, resource allocation, and regional representation, which have often been framed in ethnic terms.
The APC stalwart, known for his outspoken views, criticized the inaction of leaders and citizens alike in addressing the issue. “We cannot continue to pretend this isn’t happening. It’s tearing us apart,” he stated, calling for deliberate efforts to promote unity and mutual respect across Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.
