'Enjoy Your Adopted Home'- Shehu Sani Slams Kemi Badenoch Over Nigerian Citizenship Remarks

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has sharply criticized Kemi Badenoch, the UK Conservative Party leader, for her comments on Nigerian citizenship laws, telling her to “enjoy your adopted home” and refrain from meddling in Nigeria’s affairs.

In a post on X, Sani responded to Badenoch’s claim during a CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria that she cannot pass Nigerian citizenship to her children due to her gender, calling her remarks misleading and questioning why she seeks citizenship for her offspring from a country she has repeatedly criticized.

Badenoch, born in London to Nigerian parents and raised in Lagos until age 16, stated, “It’s virtually impossible to get Nigerian citizenship.

I have that citizenship by virtue of my parents; I can’t give it to my children because I’m a woman.”

Sani retorted, “Why should Kemi Badenoch be bothered about getting a Nigerian citizenship for her offspring from a country she rebuked and rejected?…She should just enjoy her adopted home and leave us alone in our father’s home.”

His comments reflect growing frustration among Nigerians over Badenoch’s negative portrayals of Nigeria, including past remarks describing it as a place of “fear and insecurity” plagued by corruption.
