Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says late President Muhammadu Buhari proved that it is possible to serve in Nigeria with honesty and integrity.
Osinbajo spoke on Thursday during a brief session in honour
of Buhari at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national executive committee
(NEC) meeting.
He added that as a “convicted and converted” democrat,
Buhari showed a commitment to the rule of law.
“In his many years in public service, he (Buhari) proved
that you can serve with honesty, transparency and integrity,” he said.
“He ran for office thrice and lost and pursued his rights in
the courts, losing all three times. It was only the fourth time that he won. He
demonstrated belief in the Constitution and the rule of law.”
Osinbajo served as deputy to the late president for eight
years.
At the NEC meeting, the APC elected Nentawe Yilwatda as the
party’s new national chairman.
The meeting is the first major gathering of the APC
following Buhari’s death.
Members of the APC NEC include the national chairman, deputy
national chairmen (north and south), national secretary, deputy national
secretary, six national vice-chairmen (zonal chairpersons), and national legal
adviser.
Other members are the deputy legal adviser, national
treasurer, deputy treasurer, national financial secretary, deputy financial
secretary, national organising secretary deputy organising secretary, national
publicity secretary, and the deputy publicity secretary.
The national welfare secretary, deputy welfare secretary,
national auditor, deputy auditor, national women leader, deputy women leader,
national youth leader, deputy youth leader, special (physically challenged)
leader, zonal secretaries, youth leaders, women leaders, and state chairmen of
the party are also among the NEC members.
