Benue govt assures NYSC members of improved security

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has assured corps members of security in the state, saying that more security operatives have been deployed to the state.

Alia warned heads of government ministries, departments and agencies against the rejection of corps members posted to them.

He gave the warning during the closing ceremony of the 2025 batch A stream 11 orientation course at the National Youth Service Corps camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the state, on Tuesday.

The governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner of Youth, Sports Development and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and well-being of corps members posted to the state.

He said, “Let me at this function, remind all Corps employers, particularly Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as private sectors in the State that the policy of non-rejection of Corps members is still enforced. For the avoidance of doubt, any State Government agency head who defies this directive could be sanctioned accordingly.

“Our dear state has experienced insecurity through unprovoked attacks on our communities in recent times. My administration has not rested on its oars through consistent engagement with the security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen security intervention and provide lasting solutions to these persistent attacks.

“We have received additional security deployment for the vulnerable areas, and I assure you of your safety throughout your stay in the state

“Moreover, my administration will continue to prioritise the welfare and well-being of Corps members serving in the State throughout their Service year.”

Speaking earlier, the state coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Veronica Garba, urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme and their families.

“As you proceed to your various places of posting shortly, I urge you to be good ambassadors of the scheme, your families, and institutions of graduation.

“Stay away from negative acts that are inimical to the image of NYSC and your families, especially drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrimes, cultism and bribery, amongst others,” Garba said.
