Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Denmark international Christian Norgaard from Brentford, ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The club confirmed this in a statement on Thursday via its website.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who captained Brentford during the 2023/24 campaign, joins the Gunners after making 196 appearances for the Bees in all competitions, including 122 in the Premier League. During his time with the West London side, he scored 13 goals and provided 18 assists.
Norgaard began his professional career in his native Denmark with Lyngby, progressing through the youth ranks before making his senior debut at just 17. A brief stint in Germany followed, where he signed for Hamburg as an 18-year-old. He returned to Denmark in 2013 to join Superliga side Brondby, where he developed into a key figure over five seasons.
During his time at Brondby, Norgaard made 147 appearances, scored 12 goals, and registered nine assists. He was voted the club’s Player of the Year in 2017 and played a crucial role in their Danish Cup triumph in the 2017/18 season.
The Danish international moved to Italy in 2018, signing for Serie A side Fiorentina, but spent just one season there before transferring to Brentford in May 2019. Norgaard became an integral part of Brentford’s rise to the top flight, playing a pivotal role in their promotion to the Premier League after a 74-year absence.
He was appointed Brentford captain ahead of last season, which turned out to be his most prolific campaign, as he scored six goals from a defensive midfield role.
At international level, Norgaard has made 35 appearances for Denmark since making his senior debut in a goalless draw against England in September 2020.

Manager Mikel Arteta also expressed his excitement about the signing, stating: “We’re delighted to welcome Christian to Arsenal. He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League. He has proven leadership skills and a strong character which will be invaluable to our squad.
“He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical awareness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence which will give us added depth and balance. Christian will bring a lot to the group both on and off the pitch, and we’re excited to start working with him in this next chapter of his career.”
Norgaard will wear the number 16 shirt for Arsenal and is expected to link up immediately with his new teammates for pre-season.
The club noted that the transfer remains subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
