Senate President Akpabio Declares Niger Delta’s Support for Tinubu

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asserted that no “political conspiracy” will unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, as the Niger Delta region stands firmly behind his administration.

In a viral video shared on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Akpabio emphasized that the South-South region will not allow a repeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 election loss.

“Do not think that anybody can become President without consultation with people of the Niger Delta region. The entire South-South, the entire Niger Delta will stick as one voice,” he declared, adding, “On your mandate we stand. No conspiracy formed against this government that has recognized Niger Delta shall prosper.”

Akpabio praised Tinubu for prioritizing the region’s development, citing initiatives like the establishment of a University of Environment and Sciences in Ogoni land to address environmental concerns.

He noted that Tinubu’s administration has brought unprecedented recognition to the Niger Delta, contrasting it with past neglect despite the region’s resource contributions.

The remarks comes amid heightened political tensions as opposition leaders, including former Senate President David Mark, ex-Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and others, have rallied under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to challenge Tinubu’s re-election.

The ADC, with Mark as interim national chairman and former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim national secretary, has attracted political heavyweights like former APC chairman John Oyegun, ex-AGF Abubakar Malami, and former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Liyel Imoke, and Aminu Tambuwal.

Despite the opposition’s growing momentum, the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains confident, dismissing any threat to Tinubu’s leadership and asserting widespread support for his presidency as the 2027 elections approach.
