The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has initiated its manifesto drive for the 2027 Nigerian general elections, prioritizing the development of a strong ideological base before endorsing a presidential candidate.
According to reports, the party’s leadership is focusing on creating a platform rooted in transformation, inclusion, and progressive policies rather than rushing to select a candidate amidst speculations about political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.
Interim National Chairman David Mark emphasized that the ADC aims to avoid “premature agitations” and instead focus on establishing a clear vision for Nigeria’s future. The ADC, which has gained momentum as a coalition platform for opposition leaders seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is working to consolidate its grassroots presence.
The party has seen significant defections from major parties like the PDP, APC, and Labour Party across states including Rivers, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Jigawa, Ebonyi, Kano, and Adamawa. Notable defectors include former PDP Chairman in Ebonyi State, Silas Onu, and others from various political backgrounds, signaling growing support for the ADC’s vision.
The manifesto drive is part of a broader strategy to engage citizens and stakeholders, emphasizing transparency, fairness, and knowledge-driven governance.
The ADC’s leadership has outlined plans to mobilize 35 million voters and promote policies such as a $30 billion power generation initiative and value-added programs for agriculture and solid minerals.
The party positions itself as a “grassroots party” open to all Nigerians, aiming to foster unity and prevent a one-party state under the APC.
However, some critics, including APC chieftains and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, have questioned the coalition’s viability, citing a lack of new ideas or ideological clarity.
