Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area in Adamawa State following a resurgence of violence between the Chibo and Bachama communities.
The curfew, which takes immediate effect, aims to restore order and ensure the safety of residents in the affected area.
The communal clashes between the two communities have been ongoing, with the police attributing the violence to a long-standing land dispute that has been unresolved despite court litigation.
The state Police Command reported that 33 thatched huts and three bigger houses were burnt down in the violence, highlighting the severity of the clashes.
The curfew is effective immediately, and security agencies have been directed to enforce it strictly. Anyone found contravening the curfew will be arrested and dealt with according to the law.
Governor Fintiri assured residents that the government is committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring the safety of all citizens. The governor urged residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading rumors that could exacerbate the situation.
The curfew will remain in place until further notice, and the government will continue to work towards restoring peace and stability in the affected area.
