"Threat against Peter Obi is threat against all of us" - Atiku

Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has issued a strong warning against any threats targeting Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate.

In a statement released on his X handle, on Tuesday, Atiku declared, “Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us!”

The statement, attributed to Atiku with his initials “AA,” comes amid rising political tensions and warning from Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to Peter Obi, asking him to clear from him before visiting the state.

While Atiku did not elaborate on specific threats, his remarks have ignited discussions about the safety of political figures and the need for unity in Nigeria’s increasingly polarized political environment.

His public defense of Obi, a key political rival in the last election, signals a rare show of solidarity across party lines.

The statement is being interpreted as a call to protect the democratic process and ensure the safety of all candidates and citizens.

The message has resonated widely, particularly among supporters of Obi, who commands a strong following, especially among younger voters.

However, it has also sparked debate, with some critics cautioning that such statements could heighten political tensions if not carefully managed.

Neither the Nigeria Police Force nor other security agencies have commented on any specific threats against Obi.

Representatives from Obi’s camp have yet to respond officially, though sources indicate he remains committed to his advocacy for good governance and national progress.
