5 things to always carry around during rainy season

The rainy season in Nigeria is one that might be stressful due to the heavy and consistent rainfall.

Because of the terrains and somewhat bad roads in most parts of the country, navigating the area during this time might be a bit of a hassle.

To survive the rainy season in Nigeria, here are 5 items you must always have with you, either in your car or in a backpack:

1. Umbrella:

If you intend to move around during rainy days, an umbrella is a no-brainer. Whether a portable or foldable one to put on your carry-ons or a large, strong one to withstand the bellowing winds, an umbrella is indeed a must. Not only will it keep you (mostly) dry, it will save you time from waiting around for the rain to subside.

2. Raincoat, Shower cap and Shoe cover:

These can substitute for an umbrella in terms of keeping you dry from the rainfall. One great advantage is that it keeps you hands-free and is also very light and portable. They can be folded into any available space an might even offer more coverage than an umbrella.

3. Hoodie/Jackets:

This should also be a staple in your day-to-day luggage. Most offices and establishments do not control the temperature or air conditioning and so you might need something extra to keep warm in such places.

4. Towels/Handkerchiefs:

This is to keep you dry if you eventually get wet for one reason or the other. Because you don't want to go around with a wet spot, the towel is to dry you up as much as is possible.

5. Inhaler, menthol and mint:

These ensures that you don't end up with a runny nose or sore throat after spending hours in the rain. They keep your nasal system from congestion and ensure you're able to breathe well without blockage.

All these and more should be in your rainy-day starter pack to ensure your days are as hitch-free as can go.
