A 16-year-old student of UBE Junior Secondary School in Oju, Benue State, has been arrested in connection with the d3ath of his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, following a confrontation on Thursday.
The student, identified as Friday Ogamude, allegedly attacked the teacher during a dispute over a confiscated cap.The altercation reportedly stemmed from a cap that the teacher had confiscated from the student in May 2025.
The incident occurred on the school premises in Oju Local Government Area, with the teacher collapsing after being allegedly struck by the student.
Mr. Oyibe was taken to Amara Hospital in Oju, where he was confirmed d3ad by a medical doctor.
The Benue State Police Command has taken the suspect into custody and confirmed that an investigation is underway.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the General Hospital, Oju, for autopsy.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing, and appropriate legal steps will be taken based on the outcome.
