A devastating incident occurred in Taraba State when a church building collapsed during a Sunday service, injuring several worshippers.
The United Methodist Church Nigeria (UMCN) in Jantaro community, Mutum-Biyu town, Gassol Local Government Area, caved in due to heavy rainfall and a strong windstorm on June 15, 2025.
Many worshippers were injured, with some sustaining fractures. The injured were rushed to Mutum-Biyu Referral Hospital for treatment, while those with fractures were taken to a local bone setter.
Alhaji Baffa Wanzami, the bone setter, confirmed treating three worshippers, including a young girl, with fractures on their arms and legs.
The strong windstorm also destroyed some houses in the town, according to eyewitness Musa Adamu.
Fortunately, no deaths were recorded in the incident, and the community is providing support to those affected.
The incident has left the community in shock, and authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the collapse and assess the damage.
